Sri. Raman Kalyan learned Carnatic vocal music from Smt. Rajalakshmi of Mysore at the age of nine. Later, he learned from Sri. BS Venugopal and received advanced training from the famous Rudra-patnam Thygarajan.
Raman, blessed with a deep bass voice, has lent his voice for many CDs and teaches Carnatic Vocal music and Carnatic flute for hundreds of students across the globe. Breathing magical melodies on the Indian bamboo flute, Raman Kalyan is one of the leading flautists in the Carnatic style of music. His unique style has captivated audiences globally, with his renderings released acorss 80+ CDs and DVDs. His most recently released album, Music for Deep Meditation reached the # 1 spot on Apple iTunes world music charts & remained in the top 50 albums for more than 6 months.
Raman is a highly graded and top-ranked artist with All India Radio & Doordarshan and has sung a number of recordings for the respective stations. His Latest CD, Krishna Lila for Inner Splendor Media, has been well appreciated globally. Raman has also been featured as a guest artist in more than 300 commercial recordings & Indian Movies. Raman’s accompaniment for Martha Graham’s documentary, “The Flute of Krishna”, has been appreciated globally and his Meditation music YouTube videos have been very popular with more than 300,000 views.
Apart from solo concerts Raman has also sung for a number of Arangetrams and Ran-gapravesams and has worked with several stalwarts including the Dhanajayans, CV Chandrashekar, Adayar Lakshman, and Ravi Vempatti.
Raman has toured globally and has performed alongside many legendary musicians including Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt (Grammy Winner), Ustad Shahid Pervez, VikkuVinaykram (Grammy Winner), Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Nikhil Ghosh, and A.K Palanivel. He has also toured as a special guest with the legendary singer & Guinness record holder K.J Yesudas.
