Smt. Amrita Rao Amrita Rao, began her tryst with Hindustani classical music at the tender age of eight. She was introduced to Hindustani music by Mrs Lalitha Hegde.
She then sought the tutelage of renowned artiste and Guru Pandit Parameshwar Hegde in Bangalore. He sculpted and refined her vocal abilities; she seeks his expert guidance to this very day. Amrita Rao is a B-high graded artiste of All India Radio in both North Indian classical music and light music genres. She is a recipient of the prestigious Young artistes’ Scholarship from HRD ministry and CCRT Scholarship for Hindustani music from Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India) Amrita has performed at noted venues in various Indian cities (Pune, Bhopal, Kochi, Bangalore, Hubli, Dharwad, Sirsi, Honnavar, Udupi etc. She has also performed in Los Angeles (Avartan Music Festival, UCLA), SF Bay Area (Sangeet Dhwani, Dhwani Academy, Swara Lahari), Toronto. She won a Gold Medal for light music from Adarsha Sugama Sangeeth Academy, Bangalore. She also has a unique experience of teaching the tribal students of Heggadadevana kote (a tribal belt in remote Karnataka) for 3 years. Amrita is a post graduate in Behavioral Science. She aims to increase awareness in classical music and hence, continues to conduct music classes at her residence in the San Francisco Bay Area, California and at The Raaga School of Music Amrita is accepting new students. |
