Transcript: Hello everybody, my name is Nandaja. My daughter Abigail learns Carnatic vocal from the Raaga school. It’s been a very pleasurable experience being associated with the school and being in US, a home away from home, I think we all tend to hold on to our roots a little stronger and getting back to the Indian performing arts is one way in which we try to hold on to that roots a little stronger.
And that’s one of the main reasons why I wanted my child to connect back to her tradition in some way or the other, even when she’s pursuing other Western art forms like ballet and piano and all that. And the rigor and the practice that’s needed to learn an Indian performing art is a little different and it’s hard to make it accessible for everybody and that has been a win for Raaga school where they embrace students of all kinds.
They have teachers catering to a beginner level, an intermediate level, an advanced level and I have seen a lot of adults come to Raaga school and learn a lot of performing arts as well. So Raaga is a beautiful bridge between our contemporary lives and the ancient Indian performing arts and it’s really nice to have a platform like this for our children and even us as adults to come back and learn an Indian performing art of our choice.
I personally also experienced a Raaga workshop in September and connected back to some of the Carnatic music that I have learned several years ago and even that was an extremely pleasurable experience. A huge shout out to the Raaga admin team, especially Satish sir and Shambhavi ji who almost like ran the entire show here and to the volunteers and the teachers who made this student concert a grand success.
A special thanks to the teachers that my daughter has learned from, Ravali ji, Harini ji, and Rajani ji, who conducted a summer workshop where she learned Nottuswarams. It’s really amazing to have a platform like this which connects us back to the Indian traditions. Thank you so much!!!

Shrinidhi and Siddharth Chandramouli
Their daily 1-2 hour long practice sessions include their own unique way of exploring the swara patterns and visually representing them to better understand the beauty of the ragas and compositions.
The twins can often be seen comparing and contrasting Carnatic music with other forms of world music, listening to music or making up their own fusion pieces during their free time.
The twins also love to attend music workshops and concerts of various artists.
Apart from singing and being avid readers, Siddharth loves to draw, animate and cook whereas Shrinidhi loves to paint, play tennis and solve puzzles.
Siddharth and Shrinidhi are currently studying fifth grade at Casa di Mir Montessori school.

I am also extremely appreciative of how the school and Miss Shambhavi switched to online classes very quickly when the stay at home order started. Kids didn't lose any class and they just continued online. I am sure the staff is putting in many additional hours to do the classes online.

We offer both group and one-on-one lessons, depending on the student’s preference and the course chosen.
A vast majority of our classes are Group classes. Historically, classes were conducted in Gurukuls – in small group settings. We find that students also learn Classical Indian music faster in Group settings. As you progress towards more advanced stages, more classes tend to be 1×1.
Class schedules vary depending on the instrument or vocal course. We have 14 classrooms between our Saratoga and Fremont Studios. And we have a plethora of online classes as well.

Yes, we offer a free trial class for new students. This session allows you to experience our teaching methods, interact with the instructor, and gain a better understanding of our curriculum. The trial class also gives our instructors a chance to assess your current skill level and recommend the best course to match your needs.
Whether you are interested in Carnatic vocal, instrumental training, or any of our other offerings, the trial class is tailored to your chosen area of interest. It’s a great way to ensure that you feel comfortable and confident before committing to regular classes.
Yes, we provide online classes via Zoom to accommodate students from all over the world.

Group Classes:
Group classes typically have 4–8 students. This size allows for interactive learning, peer motivation, and individual guidance from the instructor. Group sessions are ideal for students at similar skill levels and are especially effective for beginners.Individual Classes:
For those who prefer one-on-one instruction, we offer personalized lessons. These classes are tailored to the student’s pace and specific learning goals, providing a highly focused learning experience.Online Classes:
Online sessions maintain similar class sizes as in-person lessons. For group online classes, we limit the size to ensure every student gets ample attention.

As of May 2025, our fees are the following:
Most of our classes are Group Classes.
- Beginner Vocals is $155 per 4 classes (in person)
- Beginner Vocals is $145 per 4 classes (online)
- Beginner Small Instruments and
- Intermediate Vocals is $175 per 4 classes (in person)
- Beginner Large Instruments, Intermediate Small Instruments and Advanced Vocals is $210 per 4 classes (in person)
- 1×1 classes are 210 per 4 classes (30 mins per class)
- Group classes are 1 hour long
Group classes with only one student are 30 mins – extended to 1 hour when a second student joins.
